40 years of Apricorn

Apricorn provides hardware-based secure storage innovation products for organisations who require the highest-level of protection for their data. Their products are trusted, highly esteemed within the industry and have become standard for the most prominent finance, healthcare, education, and government companies throughout North America and EMEA.

At the heart and soul of every Apricorn product is Aegisware™, which is their patent-protected hardware-centric approach to data security. This software-free method enables cross-platform compatibility with any OS or embedded equipment with a USB port and file storage system.

Apricorn’s unique approach of employing 256-bit internal and portable HDD encryption is particularly beneficial to organisations whose data security practices are regulated. Their encrypted USB drives and devices set the standard for data security on a global scale.

The History of Apricorn

Apricorn was founded in 1983, and has since developed dozens of award-winning products, as well as patents for other leading computer manufacturers on an OEM basis.

To celebrate 40 years, Apricorn recently conducted a Twitter poll to highlight the lasting impact of legacy technology. The poll ran in January and discovered the resurgence of well-loved technology staples from the 1980s.

One poll question asked what tech respondents would most like to see revived. 30% answered that they would like to bring back the nostalgic dial telephone, whilst 21% called for the rebirth of pagers. Another question called for respondents to comment on the most valued digital content they’ve lost in the past 40 years that storing on a USB device (such as the Apricorn Secure Key 3NXC) could have saved. 63% respondents said they lost precious photos, 18% lost home videos and 12% lost personal documents.

Apricorn is the pioneer of software-free, hardware-encrypted USB devices and has developed many firsts in the industry including the Provision Lock™, FIPS level encryption on a variety of devices and the first device of its kind to have a built-in USB-C connector. Apricorn Managing Director EMEA, Jon Fielding, commented on the poll:

“It’s clear that the trusty USB stick continues to play a highly relevant role in our lives, which is why, as we celebrate 40 years of Apricorn, we’re still turning out innovative, secure removable storage devices. While some legacy tech and office staples have lost their mojo, the longevity of USB devices highlighted in our poll demonstrates their value even decades down the line.”

The results of this poll were used by the Origin Comms team to produce a press release that was distributed to and featured in a number of high-profile publications including UK Tech News, Newswire and Office Equipment News.
