Taking cybersecurity and safety one step further…

As specialists in cybersecurity we’ve seen our fair share of threats and the risks posed by the online world.

These risks obviously stretch far and wide, and can have detrimental effects. The cybersecurity industry recognises this, and also the part they can play in protecting individuals, children in particular, from the harms that the internet can present. Even more than that, it recognises that this is just one of the many dangers children face.

As such, White Hat Events, which was founded 15 years ago when a group of security and risk professionals came together to raise money for charity, introduced the White Hat Ball. This is a sell-out, glamorous and fun-filled event, organised by a committee of dedicated volunteers from the Information Risk and Security sector to raise money for the Childline (NSPCC). This annual event raised over £200k for the charity in 2019 alone!

As a means of offering our support to this very worthy cause, Origin Comms have attended as guests for a number of years, and in 2020 as a sponsor also. Childline is a free, private and confidential service for anyone under 19 in the UK, providing trained support for young people dealing with a wide range of issues. In 2006, Childline became part of the NSPCC.

We are proud to be a sponsor of the event (you may find our name wrapped around the water bottles, in the programme and on-screen), and to know that we can make a difference to the lives of many children, whilst in the company of many likeminded attendees from the cybersecurity industry. By attending this event we can make sure there’s always someone at the end of the phone when a child contacts Childline looking for help.

White Hat Ball Guests enjoy a champagne reception and sumptuous 3-course dinner, followed by entertainment including silent and live auctions where fantastic prizes will be won and again, raise a huge amount of money for the charity. To top off the night, you can enjoy drinks at the bar, listen to the live band and dance the night away.

The event takes place at the end of January, or at least, has done over the many years that we have attended. It’s held at the Lancaster Hotel in London and Origin Comms always looks forward to seeing some familiar faces at the event, and meeting many new ones, whilst raising money for this fantastic charity.

If you would like to be involved with this event, please visit https://whitehatevents.org/white-hat-ball/, book your table and get your glad-rags on and we look forward to seeing you there.
